September 5, 2001

New officers of the American Dental Assistants Association (ADAA) were installed at the recent annual conference of the ADAA held in New York City in conjunction with the Academy of General Dentistry.

Heading the list of officers as president is Cynthia K. Bradley, CDA, EFDA, of Winter Park, Fla. She is program coordinator for dental assisting at OTEC-Orlando Tech in Orlando, Fla., and was educated at the University of Central Florida and the University of Florida.

Also elected and installed were Karen Waide, CDA, EFDA, Newberg, Ore., president-elect; Kay Mosley, CDA, Oklahoma City, vice president; and Cathy Roberts, CDA, FADAA, secretary, from Bloomington, Ind. Anna Nelson, CDA, RDA, San Francisco, is the ADAA immediate past president.

As leaders of the ADAA in the upcoming year, officers will work toward the adoption of legislation mandating credentialing for clinical dental assistants and greater recognition of the assistant's role in the professional dental team. During 2002, they will preside over Dental Assistants Recognition Week in March, and the annual national conference in Honolulu in July with the Academy of General Dentistry.

The ADAA is a 15,000-member voluntary association of professional dental assistants now in its 77th year.
