Special instruments for intraoral adjustments of titanium abutments launched

August 26, 2008

ROCK HILL, South Carolina--KOMET USA has introduced new special tungsten carbide instruments to the U.S. dental market for intraoral adjustments on titanium abutments.

When it comes to implant dentistry, titanium abutments are used to receive a crown or a bridge, and are either prefabricated or custom-made by dental laboratories. Dentists sometimes must make slight adjustments to the abutments to achieve optimum restoration positioning.

The KOMET burs effectively work on titanium abutments and should be followed by a matching finishing bur, which are identified by its red ring. The bur's coarse, cross-cut toothing are specially developed for intraoral preparation of titanium, and cuts tough titanium without clogging.

Shaping burs are identified with a golden shank and a "G" in the reference number, and come in three different sizes: H856G.314.016/018/020, H847KRG.314.016/018/020 and H379G.314.023.

Finishing burs are also available in three different sizes: H375R.314.016/018/021, H336.314.016/018/021, and H379.314.023.
